Anyone know if the facebook chat is accessble and also, can you chat with the facebook community?

facebook chat: You have two options, though the other one works with older versions of firefox. For one, when you hear the "graphic images button/im" or something and then you see the "welcome to facebook chat," you hit that link. A new window will pop up. From here you see in headings the online friends. To send a message to someone you first press enter on their name, and then tab twice or until you hear edit and then the message oice saying "contains" text. In reality jaws/window eyes reports a whole bunch of edit boxes, but if you go to the first one and then hit tab, you can press enter and write your message. You can then get off forms mode or turn MSAA on for window eyes and then hit shift plus H to go to the heading with all the messages (bottom messages last). Finally, when you decide to chat to someone else just clear the chat window (there's a link at the top of the page) and then click on your other friend's name. I am not sure how you'd handle such a thing when you chat to more than one friend individually. I am not sure if it is possible to chat with the facebook community, though I haven't hear of such feature coming into place. They are developping group chats (chatting with more than one people simultaneously). The second optoin includes firefox. Same steps aply, but instead of clicking the graphic link you'd see the online friends at the top of the page. Clicking them will make the top of the window look similar to the window you open up on internet explorer. To log out of chat you can close the new opened window on internet explorer or jsut set yourself offline. I hope this is clear enough.

thanks.
Is there any way to get any applications?

Post 4 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Thursday, 31-Jul-2008 14:52:11

Just log in and look for the applications link. When you go to it, it says edit my applications. Therre should be something called browse for applications. There's a tun of them.

see the myspace posting for the complete answer but look for a multi msger that suports the xmpp protocol and find out the server settings, enter your username and pw and you will be able to chat using a standard messenger. a common one for windows is maranda, and for mac is adium. they are both accessible.

so, mirranda has a myspace plugeon?

Post 8 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 05-Aug-2008 17:01:06

No it does not. I know this, because I just got miranda's latest build last night, and i checked the plugins. Unless its in the addons page of miranda's site, their is no myspace plugin that I know of.

By using the site.

From what I've read, Facebook is planning on supporting XMPP but that hasn't happened yet. adium is using http to access Facebook chat. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

hmmm, that's weird. I was hoping to be able to chat with other people online, and finding out that myspace Im not being accessable sucks!

there is an easier way to search for applications on facebook, here is an example, you type in the search box, accessable on any page, the word dragon, then hit enter, then go to the search button and under that there is a list, of profile, group, event or application. after each of these things it gives a number, and it is how many of each thing match the key word you put in. that is how I found the pet dragons application. and a bunch of other ones that I have.

and the chat, I'm not sure how to explain it, but it works with IE7, and I like it, but I don't use it as often as I should.

THe chat on the site also works with safari on the mack.

and the site itself is easy to navigate, it's all headings, and when you hit the heading for the app you want, again like pet dragons, you just hit the N key if you use jaws and that takes you past all the links to the news, then you hit it after that to what you want, or if you are training your dragon, just hit the F key to get to the edit box for hunting, collecting or training, it's quite easy, once you know what you are doing on it.

I don't find the chat the easiest thing to use, but, I found, as soon as I upgraded to IE 7, I could use it pretty much. It's a bit of fiddling around though.

Post 17 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Tuesday, 19-Aug-2008 16:50:58

same was true for me, but yeah. the one thing that I tried for like 10 minutes and couldn't stand was the new layout for facebook, I went back to the old one because that was easier to navigate.

How will you know if somebody is chating with you?

Post 20 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Saturday, 23-Aug-2008 0:21:42

with facebook, if someone sends you a chat message, a pop sound comes through the speakers; that's how I discovered I could now use it; I heard the pop, looked up the top, and saw someone had typed me a message. I then went down to the second edit box, typed back to then, and pressed enter; that's how it works.
